# Download a companion app for Jade

Before setting up your Jade, you will need to download a compatible companion app on either mobile or desktop. The **Blockstream app is recommended**, but you are welcome to use Jade solely with your favorite supported wallet platform.

You use your companion app to generate receive addresses and broadcast transactions to the internet, and you use Jade to authorize transactions and keep your private keys safe. Never enter your Jade's recovery phrase on a companion app directly.
